Maahad Daawah Organisation began in 1994 in Nairobi, when a small circle of believers came together around a single intention: to reach the communities that larger systems overlook. With no offices and little more than conviction, they pooled their own time and means — and started showing up where the need was greatest. Thirty years on, that same spirit of amanah still guides every programme.
The founding members met as friends and neighbours who wanted their giving to be felt, not just recorded. They organised the first collections by hand, visited families door to door, and committed that every shilling would be treated as a trust answerable before Allah.
When drought struck Kenya’s arid north, the team loaded what they could and travelled far past the tarmac to deliver food and water. Those early convoys set the pattern that still defines the work: get there first, stay long after the emergency passes, and build toward self-reliance.
Conviction grew into institutions. Al-Furqan Training Institute opened its doors to its first boarders — pairing Islamic grounding with a full secular education. That first cohort would go on to rank among the top schools in the region, with the great majority qualifying for college.
To endow the mission for the long term, members took on an extraordinary fundraiser — cycling the long road toward Hajj to raise funds for Al-Furqan Towers, a Waqf asset whose returns would support the work in perpetuity. It captured everything Maahad is: sacrifice, sincerity, and an eye on the lasting reward.

An integrated Islamic and secular boarding programme: students pursue Islamic Alim studies — two years Mustawa and three years Thanawi across 18 subjects — alongside the national curriculum, preparing graduates to serve the Ummah as Imams and Da'aees.
2025 marked the institute's first Grade 7 intake under the CBC system. 33 students completed their KCSE alongside their Islamic education, and 15 achieved university entrance grades.
A Waqf investment launched in 2023 to make the Institute self-financing — currently servicing a 13-year Istisna' facility (2 years repaid), after which it becomes a fully unencumbered endowment securing ATI's future.
On 5 hectares donated as Waqf by Mama Hamida Fazal Jhanda, in partnership with the Angel Welfare & Education Trust (AWET), serving the Ramisi community of approximately 300 families.
The community's first dedicated madrasa, with separate classrooms for boys and girls — supported by five qualified teachers and a resident Imam. Every brick is a Sadaqah Jariyah.
